DGS Delicatessen
Posted by nickThe past few days have been very exciting. At long last, we’ve announced our plans to open DGS Delicatessen in Dupont Circle. Take a gander at what Todd Kliman had to say in the Washingtonian!
We are looking forward to bringing an authentic Jewish delicatessen to DC. Our partner and chef Barry Koslow will brine, cure, and smoke all the meat and fish on site. Mark Furstenburg will bake all of our bread bagels and bialys. We are hoping to create a fixture in the District’s culinary landscape that goes beyond food. DGS is about conviviality, community and the history of our hometown.
David and I are fourth generation Washingtonians. We decided to name the place DGS to root it in the history of the city. The District Grocery Stores were a cooperative of mom-and-pop Jewish grocery stores that banded together in the early 1900′s. They were a staple of their communities. David’s grandparents owned one of the original DGS stores.
As we get closer to opening our doors, we are looking forward to hearing from you. Feel free to contact us with any questions. We are mining through old family cookbooks; if you have recipes that we must have please send them our way. Stay tuned for updates as we get closer to opening our doors this spring.
