Going Back to Retail

Going Back to Retail

Posted by nick

We like to tell our grandparent’s story.

First generation immigrants arrived from Eastern Europe in the early 1900′s. Entrepreneurial spirit was the survival tool of the day. So many of our grandparents generation flooded the retail market. In DC, the corner grocery stores were the market of choice. They called them District Grocery Stores.

We’ve decided to call our soon-to-open place DGS Delicatessen, a nod to the spirit of our grandparents era. We will be brining, curing, and smoking all of our meat and fish in-house, inspired by the butchers, craftsman and grocers of our namesake.

Check out this great piece that ran this week in DC Magazine. It tells this same story.

We’d like to note though that while we “help conceptualize” exciting projects across the city, we want to make sure to give credit to our cast of great partners who are the driving forces behind the projects we’ve worked on. We have been lucky to work with incredibly talented people and simply lend our support where needed.

We hope to see you at DGS in September!
